To ensure state officials are using accurate data to shape their response to COVID-19, the House recently approved House Resolution 1087 by Rep. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover) to direct the Legislative Budget and Finance Commission to review data collected by the Department of Health.
“It is paramount that we guarantee the accuracy of the data that all levels of government are using to inform the public and to respond to the pandemic,” Klunk said.
Throughout the pandemic, Klunk said there have been numerous occasions where there have been discrepancies in the information that has been published by the Department of Health. This includes thousands of COVID-19 positive cases being removed from the daily totals, days where there were significant statistical anomalies in the data and the co-mingling of data.
The bicameral, bipartisan LBFC was selected to oversee the review because it’s comprised of an equal number of Republicans and Democrats from the House and Senate.
“It is my hope that a comprehensive audit of the data, as seen in other states, will help us draw a clearer picture of what has occurred already and what we need to do to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the future,” Klunk said.
With House approval of House Resolution 1087, the LBFC is directed to begin the process to conduct the review.
