Middletown Township is offering three levels of dog training at the Barn. The instructor is Dottie Peruzzi (Sit Happens Dog Training), who has attained 21 American Kennel Club obedience titles. Each session consists of six classes. Please bring lots of soft treats and a collar and leash (no extendable leashes). All dogs need to have age appropriate shots. There is a max of three students per class due to COVID-19 restrictions. Fee is $210 for residents, $252 for non-residents.
Class-specific details are below:
Rally Training
This is a fun sport where you and your dog work as a team to complete a course of signs that indicate obedience exercises to complete before moving to the next sign. This is a great way to bond with your dog and have a great time. Students must have had previous training or skills such as sit, stay, down and come.
Dates are Tuesdays, Oct. 27-Dec. 8 (no class Nov. 3), from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.
Puppy & Beginner
Provides basic obedience training for puppies and dogs of all ages. Peruzzi will use positive motivation to help dogs learn sit, down, come, stay, leave it, and walk nicely on leash. Games will be played like “Puppy in the Middle,” “Pass the Puppy” and a doggy obstacle course to achieve obedience goals. Participants will also work on manners like jumping up, biting, housebreaking, chewing, etc.
Session 1 runs Mondays, Oct. 26-Nov. 30, from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m. Session 2 runs Wednesdays, Oct. 28-Dec. 2, from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.
Advanced Training
Provides advanced level obedience training for puppies and dogs that have already had training and want to refine and add to those skills. Your dog will learn sit, down, stay, come from a distance and with distractions, stand, backup, walk in heel position, etc. Peruzzi will also teach how to get your dog to focus on you so that they respond better to your commands. Also taught will be tricks such as take a bow, wave hello, pick up your toys, etc.
