Volunteer Work Day – Waterway Cleanup takes place Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteer Work Days are held on the first Saturday of each month. This month will focus on the SLNC waterways, and is sponsored by Dow Chemical Company. Be prepared to get wet and dirty. Wear a mask and bring a refillable water bottle. This event is rain or shine. Saturday Morning Bird Walks take place Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31, at 7:30 a.m. Offered through November. Free. Meet outside of the Visitors’ Building at the kiosk near the parking area.
Guided Walk on the SLNC Trails takes place Sundays, Oct. 11 and 18, from 2 to 3 p.m. Join certified Pennsylvania Master Naturalist Patricia Merkel for this free, leisurely and informative walk covering seasonal topics. Meet outside of the Visitors’ Building at the kiosk near the parking area.
Earthship Tours take place Saturday, Oct. 24, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Free. Stop by to visit and learn about these interesting, sustainable structures.
Day-off from School Camp Days take place Nov. 3 and 11, Dec. 29 and 30, Jan. 18, Feb. 15, April 1 and 2, and May 18. Why only have camp in the summer when you can do it in all seasons? School Camp Days are scheduled for days when most schools are off. Each day provides exciting seasonal adventures for children ages 5-14. Staff and campers spend the days exploring the forest, swamps and marsh in all weather. Early bird pricing (available through Dec. 31 or until all programs are full) is $60 per child per day for Friends of SLNC Members; $75 per child per day for non-members. Full payment is required at the time of registration. There is a buy five, get one free sale – payment in full is due at the time of registration in order to qualify for a free School Camp Day.
