Tomlinson releases statement regarding Hayes campaign

Rep. K.C. Tomlinson said his claim that she ignored funding for local education is ‘not only ridiculous but also a flat out lie’

Republican Rep. K.C. Tomlinson, of Bensalem, released the following statement in response to what she called the “latest lies” from the campaign of her Democratic opponent Harold Hayes:

“We are two months away from Election Day and my opponent’s campaign has already started lying about my record as our state representative. In their first mailer, they falsely claim that I have ignored a $1 billion gap in education funding. They are referring to an April study by the PA Association of School Business Officials which projected a potential loss of local tax revenue as a result of COVID-19. To suggest that I ignored funding our local education is not only ridiculous but also a flat out lie. In fact, I voted to fully fund Bensalem schools, and will continue to fight for education.

“That’s why I am co-sponsor of the Fair Funding Formula Bill (HB 961), which would actually increase funding for Bensalem schools by more than $7 million. As a graduate of Bensalem public schools, I will always fight for what is best for our district.

“Mr. Hayes’ campaign also makes the awful, and false, accusation that I would use Bensalem’s children to ‘test herd immunity’ from COVID-19. Reading this made me sick to my stomach, as it could not be further from the truth. I have never suggested anything like this, nor has anyone associated with my campaign. In fact, I voted for $225 million in funding for school safety grants, which included money to ensure that our schools are clean and safe for our children. I also voted to expand testing throughout Pennsylvania and provided additional funds to protect our most vulnerable in long-term care facilities.

“It is truly disappointing to see these kinds of outright lies being told so early in this campaign, but I cannot say it is surprising. My opponent has demonstrated that he will say or do just about anything to win this election, regardless of the facts. Bensalem deserves better than this, and I hope you will join me in standing up against Mr. Hayes’ lies and the underhanded campaign he will be running from now until Nov. 3.”
