PA Liquor Control Board awards $2.8 million to reduce underage, dangerous drinking

Bucks County Drug & Alcohol Commission and Lower Makefield Township Police Department were among local recipients

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board announced it will award almost $2.8 million to 84 schools, community organizations, municipalities, law enforcement organizations, nonprofit organizations, for-profit organizations, and institutions of higher education through the 2020-22 Alcohol Education Grant Program, which aims to reduce underage and dangerous alcohol consumption.

Local recipients include: Bucks County Drug & Alcohol Commission, $39,697 for Parents Who Host Lose the Most campaign materials and ads, and mock teen bedroom; Central Bucks Regional Police Department, $34,536 for enforcement patrols, training, educational efforts and community outreach; Lower Makefield Township Police Department, $26,040 for enforcement patrols, training, educational efforts and community outreach; and No Longer Bound Prevention & Training Services, $40,000 for the youth coalition to create videos for parents on how to address underage drinking, Red Ribbon and National Prevention Week materials, Interrupted Underage Drinking Program, and “They Hear You” workshops.

“The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board takes its alcohol education responsibility very seriously, as evidenced by our funding of these important local projects, which promote public health and safety,” said PLCB chairman Tim Holden. “Preventing underage and irresponsible drinking is an important part of our mission, and we’ve awarded $17.7 million in alcohol education grants since 1999.”

The complete list of grant recipients and projects is available here.

In addition to the grants, the PLCB works to educate the public about the dangers of underage and dangerous drinking through a variety of other avenues, including a free annual alcohol educational conference, a prevention campaign – “Know When. Know How” – targeted to underage drinking, the creation and distribution of a wide range of educational materials, Responsible Alcohol Management Program training and resources for licensees, and training and technical assistance for organizations working to address the issues related to irresponsible consumption.
