Visit Bucks County shares fall itineraries

Check out seasonal getaway ideas for families and couples

With fall on the horizon, Visit Bucks County shared three itinerary ideas for a seasonal getaway. Whether you’re seeking a hike, an apple cider donut, or just coming to leaf peep, there is something in Bucks County for everyone.

For the Family

Day 1: Check in to a family-friendly hotel, like the Home2 Suites Warminster or the Hampton Inn Doylestown and start your adventure. Take the kids to Shady Brook Farm for a ton of fall fun – take a wagon ride to the apple orchard and pumpkin patch and pick your own or venture into the 5-acre corn maze. Another pumpkin place not to miss is Snipes Farm. Get outside and rent or BYO bike for a several mile ride down the Delaware Canal Towpath. Pedal through the sprawling Tyler State Park or Core Creek Park to witness some fall foliage. Hike, horseback ride, play disc golf, or bring a blanket and some take-out to enjoy a picnic in an open field.

Day 2: Grab a souvenir (or two) when you stroll the outdoor shopping village known as Peddler’s Village that evening. Spend some time viewing the locally-made scarecrows during the annual Scarecrows in the Village Display.

Day 3: Stop into Sesame Place Philadelphia for The Count’s Halloween Spooktacular event, where little ones can trick-or-treat around the park, decorate pumpkins and see everyone’s favorite furry friends dressed up in costume. Take a hike at Nockamixon State Park and check out the old-time bi-planes at Van Sant Historic Airfield. Drive up to Ringing Rocks Park, grabbing a hammer on the way, and listen to the clank, clank, clank of these “musical” yet mysterious rocks.

Traveling with Extended Family

Day 1: Book your stay at one of the county’s haunted hotels. Hop in the car for the self-guided Covered Bridge Driving Tour and see if you can cross all 12 off your bucket list. Take a pitstop at Washington Crossing Historic Park for a picnic and stroll through the grounds where George Washington and his troops camped before their famous cross of the icy Delaware River in 1776.

Day 2: Stop at Hellerick’s Family Farm or Froehlich’s Family Farm for pumpkin picking fun. Head to Peddler’s Village for its annual Apple Festival or Wine Stroll. End the day at one of the many haunted dining establishments in Bucks County, like the Black Bass Inn, which holds a historic autopsy table in its dining room. Drive to Middletown for one of the many drive-in movies Mid Atlantic Events is putting on in the Oxford Valley Mall parking lot.

Day 3: Take a stroll through the open-air Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve and spot tons of floral species native to the area. After, curb your sweet tooth with apple cider doughnuts at Solebury Orchards or pumpkin flavored ice cream at OwowCow Creamery along the Bucks County Sweet Spots Trail.

For Couples

Day 1: Book your stay at one of Bucks County’s top B&B’s to view foliage. Plan your meals around one of these 31 places for pumpkin flavored food and drinks. Take a drive up to Peddler’s Village to enjoy their October Feast event if you’re around that weekend, or book an evening adventure with their Murder Mystery Walking Tours.

Day 2: Hike to the top of the trail, or rock climb to the top of High Rocks Vista for breathtaking autumn views. Take a reserved tour in Doylestown at one of the many museums along the Mercer Mile, including Fonthill Castle, the Mercer Museum, the Michener Art Museum or Moravian Pottery & Tile Works. On your way back to your hotel, check out several of the Underground Railroad stops on the drive.

Day 3: Hop in the car and take a haunted driving tour around Bucks County. After, enjoy wine tasting along the Bucks County Wine Trail. If you’re more of a beer drinker, follow the Bucks County Ale Trail instead and try one of these pumpkin flavored brews. Get your last scare on at the Valley of Fear haunted house in Feasterville-Trevose, or at Shady Brook Farm’s haunted farm HorrorFest.
