Centennial Education Association agrees to revision of contract

The revision is an attempt to support the school district through this difficult period

In recognition of the financial impact that the COVID-19 crisis has created for the Centennial community, and in an attempt to support the school district through this difficult period, the Centennial Education Association has agreed to a revision of their contract.

The previous contract was to last through the 2023-2024 school year. While the duration of the contract will remain the same, the Association has made many financial concessions.

For the 2020-2021 school year, employees will remain at their current salary step (reflecting years of service) and the addition to the salary matrix will be reduced from .75 percent to .55 percent. In the 2021-2022 school year, teachers will move half a step on the salary matrix midway through the school year. The increment amount will return to .75 percent. In the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school year, employees will move a full step on the salary scale and .75 percent will be added to the salary matrix.

Additionally, teachers will not be able to move more than one column on the matrix each year (reflecting a continuation of education) until the 2022-2023 school year. The fiscal savings for the Centennial School District over the life of the contract will amount to over $2 million.

Several non-financial issues were also discussed, including the conversion of a professional day to an online format and the removal of professional development hours that extend beyond the 190 contractual days.
