Guidance provided to state museums and historical organizations

State-owned historic sites and museums, including Pennsbury Manor, remain closed to the public pending further guidance from the administration

The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission has put together a “Reopening Process” page for museums, historical societies and preservation organizations as they begin to consider reopening in accordance with Gov. Tom Wolf’s Process to Reopen Pennsylvania plan. The Reopening Resources page contains advice collected from organizations around the country and includes resources such as guidelines for managing collections after closures, sample reopening plans, discussions on community recovery and revitalization, visitor sentiments as a result of COVID-19, and more.

PHMC stresses health and safety during reopening and includes links to the Center for Disease Control and Pennsylvania Department of Health.

“The PHMC presents this resource to help guide our partner organizations as we begin moving forward from the COVID-19 crisis to reopen our archives, museums and historic sites and restart our historic preservation initiatives,” said PHMC executive director Andrea Lowery. “We share them in the hopes that they will be helpful to the larger community, and we invite members of our community to alert us to resources we may have overlooked. We will update the page as needed.”

PHMC’s state-owned historic sites and museums, including Pennsbury Manor, remain closed to the public pending further guidance from the administration.
