The Centennial School District board of school directors’ search for a new superintendent of schools is now in full swing.
The current superintendent, Dr. David E. Baugh, announced in March that he would be leaving the district and the state for a similar position in Colorado, effective June 30th.
To help guide their work, the board commissioned a survey of district and community stakeholders which produced more than 800 responses in which the community offered feedback, providing input on the strengths, challenges, goals and personal attributes community members want to see in the next superintendent.
The survey was made publicly available through the district website and was open for response from April 27-May 11. The survey asked two questions:
– Rank the importance of traits and characteristics for a new superintendent. The top five results were: is student centered; is safety centered; has clear educational vision; has deep knowledge of curriculum; instruction and assessment; and works well with the school board to set a clear direction for the community.
– Rank the priority of each of the following areas, specific to the new superintendent’s focus in his/her first year. The top five results were: academics and instruction; school safety; building relationships with students and staff; college and career readiness; and social and emotional learning.
The survey was conducted by Bucks County Intermediate Unit, whom the board has engaged to lead the entire search process in all its parts. Leading the effort is Dr. Mark Hoffman, executive director of the Bucks IU. The search is a service provided by the Bucks IU.
A comprehensive job posting was open for applications from April 27-May 23. The board announced that 24 highly-qualified applicants applied for the position and the board is now reviewing resumes and credentials, and is in the process of determining which candidates to interview. The board plans for finalist candidates to personally visit the district and meet with various stakeholder groups.
The board will also host a community forum providing an opportunity for all interested parties to meet the finalist candidates.
