Virtual settlement held to finalize sale of Armstrong Middle School

The Bensalem Township School District board of school directors entered into an Agreement of Sale of the property in 2016

The Bensalem Township School District recently announced that the virtual settlement of Neil A. Armstrong Middle School took place on June 1. The sale price of $7,364,613 includes three parcels. This is in addition to over $700,000 the district received as a result of the Agreement of Sale, addendums and extensions.

As part of the agreement to sell Armstrong, the actual building will be demolished by the buyer, 2201 Street Road, LLC. Additionally, the real estate transfer tax will be assumed by the buyer.

On Oct. 10, 2016, the Bensalem Township School District board of school directors approved the authorization to enter into an Agreement of Sale of the Neil A. Armstrong Middle School property, which consisted of the school building and approximately 30 acres with substantial frontage on Street Road in Bensalem Township.

District Superintendent Dr. Samuel Lee said on Tuesday that the funds received through the sale “couldn’t come at a better time.”

“All school districts across the nation are facing financial challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said. “I feel relieved because of the length of the process. The proceeds from the sale can be used to support capital projects like building, grounds and facility upgrades, and maintenance.”

From 1953 to 1969, the Armstrong property served as Bensalem High School until the current facility was built in 1969. Then it became Neil A. Armstrong Middle School until June 2005. Armstrong was used for sporting events and community activities for the past decade until the new gymnasium.
