Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick visited Family Service Association of Bucks County’s food pantry, located within the nonprofit organization’s Langhorne office. Fitzpatrick stopped by to show his support and to volunteer by packing bags of food for families with food insecurity.
“During this time of uncertainty, I am thankful for the work that organizations like Family Service are doing for our community,” he said. “This food pantry is playing a critical role in combating food insecurity here at home, giving support and vital resources to our neighbors in need.”
Last fiscal year, Family Service served 1,007 individuals through its food pantry. So far, this fiscal year, it has served 1,740 individuals. Of this number, 817 were served since March 18, when the COVID-19 pandemic began affecting the lives of so many. With 10 weeks left in the organization’s fiscal year, it is anticipated that well over 2,000 individuals with food insecurity will be served. As more and more people are losing their jobs or experiencing a reduction of work hours, food insecurity will only increase.
Family Service’s food pantry is a joint venture between Family Service and the Bucks County Opportunity Council’s Food and Nutrition Network. In addition, donations also come from individuals, corporations and community organizations.
“Congressman Fitzpatrick has always been supportive of Family Service. Now, in this unprecedented time, he and volunteers from his staff are hands-on to assist in the delivery and distribution of food to residents in need throughout Bucks County. I appreciate the congressman’s support of Family Service, our clients and the residents we serve,” said Dina Della Ducata, chief executive officer of Family Service.
