Bensalem awarded school nutrition grant

The district will receive new equipment for its kitchens and cafeterias

Bensalem Township School District announced that its food service coordinator, Pauline Welch, is one-of-four school nutrition professionals being awarded up to $65,000 worth of equipment to benefit the school meal programs through the Winston Equipment Grant, the Vulcan/Hobart Equipment Grant and two Collection Grants (comprised of donations from multiple equipment companies).

Welch, along with assistant food service coordinator Crystal DiGiacomo, applied for the equipment grant in October 2019 for an opportunity to upgrade or improve the kitchen and cafeteria operations to benefit students served.

“The equipment grant will help replace aging equipment, between 25 and 30 years old, which staff uses to feed our 6,500+ students,” said Welch.

Bensalem has received the biggest award – two dishmachines, two combi-ovens, one milk cooler, two warmers and a professional sealer.
