RSVP Philadelphia, operating its Home Delivered Meals Program at KleinLife, located at 10100 Jamison Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia, is seeking volunteer drivers under 65 years of age with no medical conditions to deliver frozen meals to area homebound seniors who cannot shop or cook for themselves.
“Due to the issues related to the coronavirus, KleinLife has ceased its daily senior center operations, which included its congregant meals program,” said John Eskate, director of RSVP Philadelphia. “Because of this, we are experiencing a greatly expanded demand from our regular senior members who now wish to receive home delivered meals. With this sudden added demand, we are now trying to accommodate some 700 senior clients in Philadelphia, Bucks and Montgomery counties. We need more volunteer drivers to help with deliveries.
“If you are able to volunteer and are available on Tuesdays during the shut down, please be in touch so RSVP Philadelphia can provide you with a special set of instructions and protective gear designed not only to protect our senior clients, but our volunteer drivers as well. We want everyone to be safe during this most extraordinary and challenging time. There is no people contact during pick up and drop off times outside at the KleinLife building.”
To volunteer, contact RSVP Philadelphia at 267-345-7787 or email jeskate@kleinlife.org. If you are unable to volunteer, you can also make a financial contribution to help defray some of the cost for providing the meals.
