A taste of the Big Apple has come to Langhorne … an ooey, gooey one, to be exact.
On Saturday, Feb. 29, the New York-based Melt Shop opened its fifth Pennsylvania location at Langhorne’s Lincoln Plaza, adjacent to the Oxford Valley Mall.
Open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and occupying a 2,500-square-foot space, the restaurant offers items such as classic grilled cheese, truffle melt and cheeseburgers, along with its signature tater tots like the Shop Tots, dusted with herbed parmesan, and Loaded Tots, topped with bacon, jalapeno, herbed parmesan and housemade cheese sauce.
Its menu also includes a fried chicken melt, topped with pepper jack cheese, red cabbage slaw and Melt Sauce on country white bread, in addition to salads, shakes and more.
“We opened our second and third Pennsylvania Melt Shop restaurants in Newtown and Downingtown in 2019 and we’re eager to kick off 2020 with our newest restaurant in Langhorne,” said franchisee Drew Smith, of Rockham Melt, LLC. “It’s our goal to bring Melt Shop to as many people in the greater Philadelphia area as we possibly can. We’re excited to open in Langhorne and look forward to continuing to expand the Melted Sandwich Movement across the state and beyond.”
Founded in 2011 in New York City, Melt Shop made its Pennsylvania debut in 2016 in King of Prussia. Smith, who also operates 29 Five Guys Burgers and Fries locations in the greater Philadelphia area, has plans to develop 17 additional Melt Shop eateries in the state as well as New Jersey and Delaware.
Melt Shop has received rankings in Entrepreneur magazine’s 2019 Top New Franchises and Fast Casual’s Top 100 Movers & Shakers in 2018 and 2019.
To celebrate its grand opening in Langhorne, Melt Shop hosted a series of giveaways, including free grilled cheese for a year on Saturday (the first guest will receive one classic grilled cheese per week for an entire year; the next 49 guests will receive one per month); free Nutella shakes on Sunday, March 1, to the first 50 guests at opening and the first 50 guests to dine after 6 p.m.; and free Shop Tots on Monday, March 2, to the first 100 guests.
According to Stephanie Weaver, area director of marketing for Oxford Valley Mall, her team is always looking for ways to keep offerings fresh for guests, especially in today’s age of increased store closings due to online shopping.
The addition of Melt Shop comes on the heels of Chipotle and Metro Diner, both of which opened in November 2019. Later this month, Five Guys Burgers and Fries is slated to open in Lincoln Plaza.
“I think our new restaurants that we’re adding in at Lincoln Plaza, they’re providing even more options for our shoppers at both the Oxford Valley Mall and Lincoln Plaza, in addition to the offerings that we already have in our mall food court and our full-service restaurants that surround the mall,” Weaver said. “We’re always looking to add new retailers and restaurants to our lineup, and ways to bring new, unique concepts for our shoppers.”
Recent retailer openings at the mall include Super Soccer Stars, which offers soccer classes for children, and Rainbow, a women’s fashion store known for affordable pricing.
