School Safety grants awarded to Council Rock and New Hope/Solebury

Council Rock will use the money to fund elementary school counselors

Rep. Wendi Thomas has announced that the Council Rock School District and New Hope/Solebury School District have received School Safety and Security grants.

Council Rock was awarded $465,750 to cover costs associated with the training and compensation of certified guidance counselors, licensed professional counselors, licensed social workers, licensed clinical social workers and school psychologists.

New Hope/Solebury was awarded $35,000 for security planning and the purchase of security-related technology.

“Council Rock will use the money to fund elementary school counselors,” Thomas said. “As we learned at my School Safety Seminar, presented by the Secret Service, in January, it is critical that we intercede with students in crisis as early as possible.”

On Feb. 13, Thomas held a hearing on mental health issues in our schools, which reiterated much of what was learned at the School Safety Seminar, including identifying students in need, supporting student bodies, and providing faculties with the resources to address these issues.

“That is why these grants are so important, and I remain committed to seeing the grants maintained and extended,” Thomas said.

The funds were from the School Safety and Security Grant Program, which releases money for school safety and security grants to schools across the Commonwealth.
