The bone-chilling days of winter aren’t going away anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start thinking about warm weather adventures.

Lower Southampton Township is once again gearing up for its Summer Day Camps and, according to Parks and Recreation Director Matt Gilbert, registration is now being accepted for a variety of offerings.

“This year’s summer day camp will feature a full share of recreational and fun activities, crafts, instructional enrichment and entertaining cultural excursions,” Gilbert said. “Our programs have been meticulously designed to allow every child the opportunity to grow and mature through a series of professionally-supervised programs and activities embracing physical development, socialization, teamwork and camaraderie.”

The nine-week series runs from June 16-Aug. 14, with an additional two weeks of camp available through Aug. 28 for interested families.

In order to ensure the best experience possible for all participants, camp is divided into age-segmented groups.

Pioneer Camp, for children ages 3 to 5 years, will be located at Russell Elliott Memorial Park on Buck Road. Discovery Camp for ages 5 to 12 years and 7 to 12 years will run simultaneously at two locations – the Dolphin Swim Club, 260 W. Bristol Road, and Joseph E. Ferderbar Elementary School, 300 Heights Lane. Teen Camp for ages 13 years and over will also be located at the Dolphin Swim Club.

“For all the ages groups, the specifics, whether it be arts and crafts, a game, sports, swimming, they’re all geared toward the abilities and interests of the age-segmented group,” Gilbert explained.

Occasional field trips to spots like AMC Neshaminy 24 and Palace Roller Skating Center are sprinkled into the schedule.

Additionally, there will be a Counselor-In-Training Program for teens 13 years and over, hosted at the Dolphin Swim Club and Ferderbar Elementary School.

“We’ll have a terrific and genuinely enriching program for youngsters of all ages, however, I encourage all parents to register early to assure that their child will have a place in our program,” Gilbert said.

Special Summer Day Camp resident rates are offered to those residing in Lower Southampton. Residence needs to be verified. The cost for a child residing in the township is $888 for the season, with a $222 first installment required. The non-resident rate is $1,164 per child, with a $291 first installment required.

The deadline for summer camp registration is May 29. Late registrants will be charged an additional $100 per child up until June 5. Payment in full is due by that date for all campers. No registrations will be accepted after that.

A digital online family registration system is now being used for the 2020 camping season. Parents should go to the Lower Southampton Township website at lowersouthamptontownship.org and click on “Parks and Recreation.” For those without access to a computer, contact the camp office at 215-357-7300, Ext. 340. A full camp payment schedule and further information is also available at that number.

The Lower Southampton Parks and Recreation Department is headquartered at 1500 Desire Ave., Feasterville. ••
