Pennsbury Education Foundation announces grant awards

Eight grants totaling more than $12,000 were recently distributed to schools across the district

The Pennsbury Education Foundation recently awarded eight grants to schools across the Pennsbury School District, totaling more than $12,000.

The PEF is a 501(c)(3) organization that relies on donations and supports the purpose of improving teaching and learning in Pennsbury through innovative educational initiatives. Grants are awarded through an application process that occurs twice each year.

The following grant recipients were announced by PEF president Annette Young:

– Charles Boehm Middle School principal Travis Bloom and school counselor Donna Bradshaw: $1,750 was approved to purchase 50 wiggle seats and bouncy bands for student seating
– Pennsbury High School West principal Lisa Becker and teacher Robert Roach: $5,157.43 to purchase the Anatomy in Clay Learning System
– Pennsbury High School East principal Reggie Meadows and teacher Mary Beth Dillione: $150 to purchase a rocking chair and weighted blanket for students with special needs
– Penn Valley Elementary School principal Barbara Hidalgo and teacher Timothy Behe: $267.93 to purchase Brain Train and Beyond: Speed Cup Stacking materials; and Hidalgo with teacher Janice Portland: $250 to purchase Reader’s Theater Stage microphones
– Quarry Hill Elementary School principal Richard Rebh and teacher Katie Veneziale: $298.97 to purchase a Silhouette Cameo 3 machine and supplies
– All 10 Pennsbury elementary schools will host Eyes of the Wild live animal assemblies with a focus on animal adaptations. The application for an approved grant totaling $2,750 was submitted by Afton Elementary principal Dr. Joseph Masgai and teacher Kristin Slota, on behalf of all the schools.
– The Pennsbury Technology Department received a grant of $1,611 to purchase 10 Q-balls (microphones-in-balls) as teaching aids in all 10 Pennsbury elementary schools. The application was submitted by Brad McCormick, director of technology, and teacher/administrative intern Amanda D’Amico.

In addition to gathering generous donations from local funding sources and individual donors, the PEF also participates in the PA Department of Community and Economic Development’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program, which awards tax credits to businesses making contributions to the PEF.
