The Peace Center is proud to celebrate its 37th year positively impacting children and adults across Bucks County who are experiencing conflict, violence or intolerance. The Langhorne-based organization has educated and empowered schools and families and enriched communities with proven conflict resolution and social justice programs. With the community’s help, it hopes to expand its reach even more this year.
The public is invited to help celebrate and honor special peacemakers at this year’s annual gala on Sunday, Oct. 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Spring Mill Manor, 171 Jacksonville Road, Ivyland. Those honored include Samuel Snipes, who passed away in December 2018 and is revered in Bucks County for his lifetime of advocacy for racial equality and peace, both locally and globally.
Barbara Simmons, executive director emeritus of The Peace Center, who devoted more than 30 years to the organization, will be presented with a special citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Simmons will retire on Feb. 1, 2020, but she will still consult with The Peace Center on special programming, community events, some of the varied programs she helped develop, and share her vast wisdom.
Last of the honorees, the Quakertown Community School District will be lauded for its commitment to prioritize diversity and inclusion programs which create safety for all its students.
The evening will be filled with festive music, drinks, food and live and silent auction items for attendees to bid on. Live auction items include a five-day, four-night getaway to Harborside Resort at Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, and an oceanfront home in Nags Head, North Carolina. Silent auction items include theater tickets, restaurant gift certificates and museum passes.

Last year, The Peace Center directly impacted nearly 5,000 Bucks County students and residents with programs ranging from bullying prevention and diversity/inclusion initiatives in schools, to dialogues on race, town hall meetings, conflict coaching, educational forums and trainings.
