Back to School Nights: Parents and teachers are encouraged to participate in “Back to School Nights” scheduled by each school in the Bensalem Township School District. Staff members and administrators will discuss academics, explain teacher expectations and student responsibilities, and present an update of school policies and procedures. “Back to School Nights” are scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on the following dates: Thursday, Sept. 19, at Cecelia Snyder, 3330 Hulmeville Road; Monday, Sept. 23, at Belmont Hills, 5000 Neshaminy Blvd.; Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Samuel K. Faust, 2901 Bellview Drive; and Thursday, Sept. 26, at Benjamin Rush, 3400 Hulmeville Road.

Newtown-Yardley Creative Writers Workshop: This group meets every other Thursday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Corner Bakery Cafe, 3 West Road, Newtown. The friendly group features readings and critiques. All types of writing are welcome, including novels and short stories, science fiction/fantasy, poetry and memoirs. Reading Series: Bucks County Community College is launching this season’s Wordsmiths Reading Series with award-winning poets Melissa Stein and Hayden Saunier. Concert: Glen Shouyuu Swann will perform in the Music at St. Philip’s 2019 season at 7 p.m. in the St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, at 10 Chapel Road, New Hope. The concert is entitled “Sunset of Autumn.” The program will include pieces both meditative and musical, from centuries old and new, with an emphasis on the beauty and impermanence crystallized in the season of autumn. Code Club: The Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library, 680 Radcliffe St. in Bristol, is hosting Code Club, a STEM educational series for children in grades 2 through 8. The club will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. weekly. Students in grades 2-4 will meet on Mondays, and grades 5-8 will meet on Tuesdays. Using Prenda software, children will learn how to code in Blocky, JavaScript, HTML/CSS and Python and to build websites, video games, apps and more. Registration is required. Participants are invited to bring their own laptop or Chromebook to each session. A limited number of library Chromebooks will be available to use.
