Glen Shouyuu Swann will perform in the Music at St. Philip’s 2019 season on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. in the historic St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, located at 10 Chapel Road, New Hope.
Swann has played the shakuhachi since 1994, studying under teachers Tomie Hahn and Steven Rowland before receiving his master’s license (and professional name) in 2011 from his current teacher Kawase Junsuke III. He also teaches Japanese tea ceremony and Tai Chi Ch’uan, as well as explores various other East Asian meditative arts.
The Sept. 21 concert is entitled “Sunset of Autumn.” The program will include pieces both meditative and musical, from centuries old and new, with an emphasis on the beauty and impermanence crystallized in the season of autumn.
Upcoming performers in the Music at St. Philip’s 2019 season include violinist Alexandre Djokic and pianist Roburt Gajdos, and cello and piano duo Noelle and Sebastian Grand.
Admission is free and concerts are open to the public. Donations for the performers and St. Philip’s are gratefully accepted. For more information, visit stphilipsnewhope.org
