YMCA of Bucks County recently received a $20,000 donation from 1847Financial, a Penn Mutual Partner, to support its Ability programs in 2019. The gift supports the Y’s Ability Special Needs programs and will fund specific needs for the program.
The Y offers an after-school program called Club After 2, for students with special needs through age 21. For participants age 21 and over, the Y’s Seekers program provides socialization and activities year-round, two evenings a week. The Y also offers Ability Summer Camp at select camp locations.
In 2019, YMCA of Bucks County anticipates serving 360 individuals with special needs between the ages of 3 and 76.
Jim Meehan, managing partner at 1847Financial, explained that giving back to the community is a foundational pillar at the core of their business.
“For us, giving back means so much more than just writing a check,” he said. “We really want to make a difference. We’re so pleased to help support the Ability programs, and are committed to supporting the YMCA special needs community.”
The donation will fund programming and services that help youth and adults with disabilities. Specifically, the resources from 1847Financial will go toward the rental of a “cool down” trailer, providing a suitable sensory processing area during summer camp, the purchase of program supplies for the Seekers program and transportation to and from programming.

Through the generosity of donors, YMCA of Bucks County provides impact programs throughout the county that directly support under-served populations in the region. The organization provided more than $5 million in community benefit in 2018 and helped nearly 60,000 individuals live more active, healthy lives, regardless of age, income or background.
