Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack 212 and the Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library, 680 Radcliffe St., Bristol, are assisting neighbors who are struggling with food insecurity and hunger. The goal is to collect food to replenish the shelves at Bristol Borough food pantries.
During regular business hours, food donations can be brought to the library through Saturday, Sept. 14 for collection by the Boy Scouts. This is a great opportunity to support the elderly, and families with growing children who might otherwise go hungry when school is out for the summer.
Greatly needed are breakfast cereals and foods, and protein-rich foods such as meat ravioli in tomato sauce, canned salmon and tuna, canned beans, dry beans and soup. However, all non-perishable foods are accepted.
Limited neighborhood food collections will be conducted by Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack 212 on Saturday, Sept. 14, beginning at 10 a.m. Select borough homes will receive a donation bag and donation flyer with details ahead of the collection date. Other food donations can be made at the Grundy Library, where there is a food collection box located inside on the main floor of the building for donations during open hours.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The library is closed on Sunday. Donated items will be transported to the Bristol Borough food pantries by Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack 212 during the event.
