Bucks County Free Library kicks off Summer Quest June 22

Families can enjoy reading challenges, entertainers, STEM activities and more

Bucks County Free Library’s Summer Quest learning program begins June 22 with kick off events from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its branches located in Bensalem, Doylestown, Langhorne, Levittown, Perkasie, Quakertown and Yardley-Makefield.

Summer Quest features a variety of free, fun activities to help kids stay active, expand knowledge and engage with the community when school is out. During Summer Quest, families will find: entertainers and animals touring the branches, limited-edition Badge Squad: Summer Quest badges, a Design Your Own Badge contest, reading challenges, hands-on STEM activities, sensory experiences, physical challenges, arts and crafts and storytimes.

BCFL challenges readers to sign up and log their summer reading minutes. Readers can pick up reading logs during kick-off events, by visiting their branch or downloading a reading log online.

There are several new aspects this year:

  • Families will have the opportunity to win exclusive VIP tickets to a special Summer Quest performance and sit up close to an acrobat or be front row at a laser light show. To enter the contest, families must attend a Summer Quest kick-off party and share a photo of their family having a blast kicking off Summer Quest on social media using the official hashtag #BucksCountyReads and including the branch location they visited. More details are available online.
  • Bucks County readers will help a community in need. With the help of Summer Quest participants, each BCFL branch will choose an animal to donate through Heifer International. Throughout the summer, participants’ reading minutes will count as votes for an animal and add to custom animal murals in each branch. The more participants read, the more they can vote.
  • Teens and adults can now earn limited edition Badge Squad: Summer Quest badges along with the kids.
  • Prismatic Magic Laser Programs, Center for Aquatic Sciences and Strongman Eric Moss are some of the new performers visiting Bucks County libraries this summer. Don’t miss returning favorites including The Franklin Institute, Lehigh Valley Zoo, Magician Ran’D Shine and more.
