Middle Bucks Institute of Technology receives School Safety Grant

The $24,125 can be used to purchase security-related equipment

Reps. Wendi Thomas (R-Bucks), Meghan Schroeder (R-Bucks), and Todd Polinchock (R-Bucks) have announced that the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology will receive a $24,125 grant from the Safe Schools Initiative.

“This is an important program that helps our schools improve safety by funding additional staff and safety equipment, all to create a safer environment for our kids and our teachers,” Thomas said.

“The legislature created this program to give our schools the opportunity to tailor programs to their needs,” Schroeder said.

“I encourage all schools to create new safety programs and apply for grants through the Safe Schools Initiative to make these plans a reality,” Polinchock said.

Students from the Council Rock, Centennial, Central Bucks and New Hope-Solebury School Districts attend MBIT.

The grant can be used to purchase security-related equipment including student, staff and visitor identification systems, metal detectors, protective lighting, surveillance equipment, special emergency communications equipment, electronic locksets, deadbolts and theft-control devices, and training in the use of the security-related technology.

The grant was part of $919,000 in competitive Safe Schools Targeted Grants awarded to 39 school districts in the Commonwealth.
