Southampton Free Library hosts Hires Root Beer event & more next month

First Annual Plant Swap takes place June 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Love plants or gardening? Here’s a chance to swap out plants for different ones. Drop off plants beginning Thursday, May 30 and receive VIP tickets to gain early access from 10 to 11 a.m. on the day of the swap. Receive one ticket for each plant dropped off. Tickets can be redeemed at any time during the day. During the regular hours of the swap, plants can still be brought in to swap out. All are welcome.

Learn about Charles Hires, the Root Beer King, on June 1 at 2 p.m. Meet author Bill Double as discusses his most recent book Charles E. Hires and the Drink that Wowed a Nation. Learn about the life and times of this Philadelphia entrepreneur and taste a sample of Hires Root Beer. This program is a joint presentation of the library and the Huntingdon Valley-Churchville Rotary. Register online.

Genealogy Workshop takes place June 5 at 10:30 a.m. Susan Koelble, a professional genealogist, will lead a workshop on genealogical research and assist attendees with their own research. Register online or by phone.

Cybersecurity: Staying Safe Online takes place June 5 at 3 p.m. Young or old, understanding how to keep information safe and secure online is important. Using secure websites, strong passwords, social media considerations, and tips for shopping online safely will be covered in this interactive session, which is brought by the PA Department of Banking and Securities.

Weekend Walks Playwicki Park takes place June 8 at 9 a.m. For the library’s first walk, explore Playwicki Park, 2350 Bridgetown Pike, Feasterville. Meet either in the library parking lot at 8:30 a.m. and caravan to the site, or meet at Playwicki Farm at 9 a.m.

Puzzle Swap takes place June 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Love jigsaw puzzles? Here’s a chance to swap out puzzles for different ones. Drop off puzzles starting Tuesday, May 28 and receive VIP tickets to gain early access from 10 to 11 a.m. on the day of the swap. Receive one ticket for each puzzle dropped off. Tickets can be redeemed for one puzzle each. If unable to attend early access period, tickets can be redeemed at any time during the day. During the regular hours of the swap, puzzles can still be brought in to swap out or they may be purchased. Please only bring puzzles with no missing pieces.

Cat Yoga with the Women’s Animal Center takes place June 8 at 10:30 a.m. Come stretch like a cat and enjoy a yoga class in a room full of adoptable cats. Please bring your own mat. Space is limited. Register online. Class is open to adults and teens.

What’s Cooking at the Library — BBQ Potluck Sides takes place June 8 at 2 p.m. Learn how to make slow cooker baked beans, pasta salad, caprese kabobs and hot fudge pudding, all perfect for summer potluck barbecues. Samples will be provided for tasting and recipes for taking. Register online as space is limited.

STEAM Coding takes place Tuesday, June 11 and Friday, June 14 at 10:30 a.m. Learn the basics of coding with the newest technology. Children will have a chance to try out Cubetto, Code-a-Pillar and Beebots. This program is for ages 3 and up. Younger siblings are welcome to observe. Register each child attending individually online. Adults and siblings observing do not need to register.

Tea with the BBC takes place June 12 at 2 p.m. Watch episodes of Agatha Raisin while enjoying tea and scones. Register online or by phone as space is limited.

Beer & Board Games at Moss Mill Brewing Co. takes place June 12 at 6 p.m. This takes place at 109 Pike Circle, Unit D, Huntingdon Valley. Play board games with family and friends and enjoy some craft beer. The library will bring board games, but attendees are welcome to bring their own. Participate in a tournament with prizes from the library and brewery. All ages welcome.
