Volunteer Work Day takes place Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Help SLNC maintain its grounds. Be prepared to get wet and dirty. Bring a refillable water bottle. Lunch will be provided for those who dedicate four hours. This event is rain or shine.

Earth Day Every Day Concert by Righteous Jolly & Greg McGarvey takes place Saturday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m. The concert by this musical duo will be held inside the Visitors’ Building. Doors open at 7 p.m. Cost is $12 per person in advance, $15 at the door. Advance ticket sales end on May 3 at 5 p.m. Prices are the same for all ages. No refunds/exchanges. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit Friends of Silver Lake Nature Center organization.

Art Show by Wm. Roger Clark — Opening Event takes place Sunday, May 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. The local Artist of Bristol will do a Fundraiser Art Show at SLNC throughout May. During the opening event, guests will have the opportunity to view the artwork, meet the artist, enjoy light refreshments, and listen to live music by harpist Gloria Galante and guitarist Jim Dragoni. Proceeds from paintings will benefit the nonprofit Friends of Silver Lake Nature Center organization.

North American Migratory Bird Count takes place Saturday, May 11 from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity for both novices and experienced “birders” to take part in a Citizen Science Project — National Bird Census. Join for all or part of the day. Pre-registration is required. Event will take place at multiple locations.

Spring Hike in Delhaas Woods takes place Saturday, May 11 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Learn about the history of the land while identifying plants and animals. Depending on weather leading up to the hike, participants may get to explore fairy shrimp in the vernal pools. Cost is $2 per person for Friends of Silver Lake members, $3 for non-members.

Full Moon Night Hike Campfire takes place Friday, May 17 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The hike begins at the Visitors’ Building, continues to the Earthship and ends with a campfire and marshmallows. Cost per person is $8 for Friends of Silver Lake members, $10 for non-members.

Nature Egg Scavenger Hunt takes place Saturday, May 18 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. This fun-for-the-whole-family activity will challenge participants to find “special” hidden eggs throughout the wilds of the forest. Solve the “Who Done It?” mystery of the eggs to achieve one of many prizes. Cost per person is $2 for Friends of Silver Lake members, $3 for non-members.

Intro to Kayaking takes place Saturday, May 18 from 9 to 11 a.m. Learn the basics of kayaking on Silver Lake. SLNC provides the kayaks and all other equipment. Cost is $30 per person, or $25 per person for Friends of Silver Lake members.

Full Moon Kayaking Excursion takes place Saturday, May 18 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. This event is for adults who have kayaked at least once before. SLNC provides the kayaks and all other equipment. Cost is $35 per person, or $30 per person for Friends of Silver Lake members.

Summer Camp Open House takes place Saturday, May 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to meet staff, ask questions, get to know SLNC and enter to win a free week of summer camp.
