Additional awards include Outstanding Soloist and Best Saxophone Section
The Times
On Friday, April 12, the Bensalem High School Jazz Band traveled to perform in the Cavalcade of Bands Jazz Championships.
Each band competing earned a spot in the show during the season by competing in a minimum of three Cavalcade-sponsored jazz festivals during the 2018–2019 season. The competition was keen and the BHS band performed exceptionally well. Having worked hard all season, the BHS Jazz Band was awarded the only “Superior Rating” at the festival, and was named “Grand Champion.”
In addition, two band members earned “Outstanding Soloist Awards.”
Dan Fauni was recognized for his trumpet solo and Kelsey Patterson was recognized for her flute solo in “Celestial Swinging Blues.” Additionally, the saxophone section was recognized as the “Best Saxophone Section” for the evening.
In earlier festivals this season, the BHS Jazz Band was also awarded “Best Trombone Section” and “Best Saxophone Section.”
Over the course of the past 11 years, the Jazz Band has now been the “Grand Champion” three times.
Its director is Michael Zimmerman.
