This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York City, paving the way for equal rights in the LGBTQ community. New Hope Celebrates honors those at Stonewall along with the change makers of Bucks County in its exhibit EqualityāāāPride in OurĀ History.
Showcasing photos, memorabilia, biographies and destinations of those who led the LGBTQ community in New Hope through the decades, the exhibit is a rich and colorful tapestry paying homage to those individuals.
New Hope Celebrates was founded in 2003 by Dan Brooks to serve the needs of the LGBTQ community and to create gay events that would establish New Hope as an LGBTQ tourist destination. New Hope Celebrates History has been created to preserve the gay history of this destination for future generations.
On Monday, April 29, Brooks will speak about the Gay Pride movement in New Hope and the ongoing history project as part of New Hope Historical Societyās āSpeaker Series.ā The talk will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a reception at the Parry Mansion, located at 45 S. Main St., New Hope. Tickets for the āSpeaker Seriesā are free for members of the New Hope Historical Society and $15 for non-members.
New Hope Celebratesā exhibit will come to the Parry Mansion on May 4 and run until June 2. It will be free to the public every Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5Ā p.m.
