On the evening of May 11, local attorney Theodore Hauptman’s mind will be cleared of civil litigation thoughts and replaced with music, dancing and, most of all, a sense of appreciation from his peers.
During the Feasterville Business Association’s annual Frolic, which will begin at 6 p.m. at the Philmont Country Club, located at 301 Tomlinson Road, Huntingdon Valley, the Holland resident will be recognized as the organization’s Person of the Year for consistently going above and beyond for multiple communities.
“I’m flattered and honored that they selected me,” Hauptman said. “I thank them.”
The announcement was recently made by Charles Roman, FBA president, who said Hauptman was singled out because of his 25 years of tireless service to the FBA. He was selected by a special committee, led by Lower Southampton Township supervisor Ed Shannon, which nominated members and came to a consensus.
Hauptman initially decided to get involved with the FBA when he was introduced to multiple members after co-founding the law firm Miller & Hauptman on Street Road in Feasterville.
Throughout those years of membership, Hauptman has volunteered in various leadership capacities. These include one term as president, an accomplishment he named as his proudest moment, corresponding secretary, and a director on the FBA’s executive board. He has served as the FBA’s legal counsel for numerous years, a position he currently holds, in addition to several committees such as its scholarship, nominating and golf committees. Hauptman has also been the overseer of FBA elections.
Since joining the FBA, which is in the midst of celebrating its 70th anniversary year, Hauptman is proud to say he has witnessed continued growth.
“Like any organization, there’s the up and down years in terms of membership. But the activities have always been pretty much the same. The organization hosts the Golf Outing every year that’s well-attended and raises a lot of money for community and charitable organizations. They do an Easter Egg Hunt,” he said. “It’s not only a business group. It’s really a community. It’s a group that, I think, does a lot for the community.”
When Hauptman isn’t donating his time to the FBA, he can usually be found at the Law Office of Theodore Hauptman, located at 609 Lakeside Park, Southampton.
Hauptman is a 1974 graduate of Philadelphia University (currently Thomas Jefferson University), where he earned a bachelor’s of science degree. He received his juris doctor degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Detroit School of Law.
While much of Hauptman’s efforts are concentrated on Feasterville, he’s not forgetting about his own hometown. He is a member of the Northampton Township zoning hearing board, a past member and three-term chairperson of the Northampton Planning Commission, and served as director, counsel and president of the Northampton Community and Economic Development group.
Additionally, Hauptman is a member of the Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Bucks County and Delaware County Bar Associations, and serves on the arbitration panels of the Philadelphia, Bucks and Delaware Counties Courts of Common Pleas.
In his spare time, Hauptman became a 6th Dan (Black Belt) Taekwondo member of the World Taekwondo Federation, and is a certified coach and referee for the USA Taekwondo and Pennsylvania Taekwondo, of which he is a member, director and counsel. Hauptman is also a member and high-performance driving instructor of the BMW Car Club of America/Delaware Valley.
He and his wife, Maureen, have three adult children — Jonathan, a recent graduate of Bucks County Community College; Adam, a graduate of Penn State University and Miami School of Advertising; and Allyson, a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point who is serving on active duty as a captain in the United States Army. ••
