The award is in memory of Dolores Carlen, who worked for 20 years in the Pupil Services Department of the Pennsbury School District
The Times
The Pennsbury Scholarship Foundation recently held a reception to recognize its new Endowed Namesake Scholarship in memory of Dolores Carlen. The PSF board of directors presented the Carlen family with a certificate of appreciation for establishing this scholarship, which will be awarded each year to a Pennsbury student in perpetuity, beginning in June.
Carlen worked for 20 years in the Pupil Services Department of the Pennsbury School District before she retired to Florida. She was probably the first face many new students and their parents became acquainted with when they came into the main office.
Carlen was always an active volunteer in the community. Along with her work in Pupil Services, she supported all things “Falcon,” from helping in her children’s classrooms, to supporting PHS sports, cheerleading, Sports Nite and the marching band.
Her four daughters were all Pennsbury graduates, and she was always proud that a PSF scholarship was established in her youngest daughter’s name, Brenda Carlen Zellner, after she passed away of cancer in 2005. She appreciated the work that the PSF does to help students achieve their goals at the next level of education, and would be extremely pleased that a scholarship is now established in her name.
The application deadline for the PSF’s 2019 awards is May 1. For more information or to download an application form, visit PennsburyScholarshipFoundation.org.
Community volunteers are invited to assist with the screening of scholarship applications on June 2. For information, email scholarships@pennsburysd.org or call 215–428–4145.
