More than 350 local students participated in the competition at Cecelia Snyder Middle School

The 76th annual Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) regional competition was held at Cecelia Snyder Middle School on Saturday, Feb. 23. More than 350 students from Philadelphia and Bucks County presented their independent scientific research to professional scientists and educators in this regional fair. Students had their choice of creating a purposeful science experiment, exploring a mathematics topic above their current range of study, or exploring technology with a computer science or engineering project.

36 Bensalem High School students participated, with 35 students earning first place awards. They are eligible to attend the state competition to present their experiments. These students are: Brittany Hood, Julia Ting, Sarah Farooq, Suhani Patel, Noah Brodecki, Treesha Brahmbhatt, Brenden Stoerrle, Deesha Patel, Jane Leible, Kruti Patel, Danielle Armstrong, Sherin Benjamin, Vinay Patel, Michelle Rana, Abdul Kidwai, Maddie MacDougall, Love Patel, Taylor Hood, Sneh Patel, Katie Ho, Gaoyu Lin, Max Palamarchuk, Gideon Tan, Ahmad Mahmood, Sami Rana, Yogesh Patel, Ali Ahmad, Prem Patel, Adam Nevrotski, Jon Larbi, David Larbi, Shiv Parekh, Patrick Le, Sumaiya Difaa, Tanvi Patnaik and Anthony Bibeck.

The high school students’ projects were sponsored by Lisa Tokmajian.

In the middle school division, 16 Robert K. Shafer students participated. 15 students placed first and are eligible to attend Penn State to present their experiments at the state level competition. These students are: Edward Barber, Joshua Cheung, Sofia Ferrandez, Krishiv Gandhi, Tiffany Gao, Jeffery Ho, Jaden Jones, Kaitlyn MacMillan, Joshua Mathew, Thomas Nicholas, Brian Olsen, Mahi Patel, Shivam Patel, Alexandra Rossi, Zaid Shaik, and Madison Thai.

The Shafer students were sponsored by Shafer teachers Diana Kelly and Jason Cohen.

10 Cecelia Snyder Middle School students participated, with nine earning first place awards. These students are: Jayson Bonville, Fabian Garcia-Carmona, Alex Hood, Aastha Patel, Aayushi Patel, Ayush Patel, Gunjan Patel, Parth Patel, Michael Revell, and Eman Raza.

The Snyder students were sponsored by Tom Hoffman and Kate Liese.

All first place winners have qualified to present at the 84th annual PJAS State Competition, May 19–21 at Penn State University in University Park. The students who placed second are eligible to attend and participate as a technician.
