Bucks County Opportunity Council elects new Board members, appoints new Board leadership

The Bucks County Opportunity Council recently elected six new members to its Board of Directors and appointed new leadership.

New members include: Natasha R. Brockington of Buckingham, a Field Logistics Manager for Relypsa; Deborah A. Downey of Warrington, a Caregiver Coordinator for Senior Helpers of Lansdale; Shane Fitzgerald of Yardley, Regional Executive Editor for GateHouse Media; Amy Gabler of Perkasie, Research and Development for Fresco Systems; Christopher S. Mahoney of Jamison, an attorney with Stuckert and Yates; and Jeffrey J. Martinides of Newtown, senior partner of a wealth management team, Merrill Lynch.

Dr. Tobi Bruhn, Vice President of Advancement, Bucks County Community College, was appointed Board Chair and Michael Mills, Partner, Antheil, Maslow & MacMinn LLP, was appointed Vice Chair of the Board.

As the lead anti-poverty community action organization in Bucks County, BCOC operates with a Tripartite Governing Board that includes representatives of the local government, private sector, and constituents. The Board is responsible for assuring that the agency continues to assess and respond to the causes and conditions of poverty in the community, achieve anticipated outcomes and remain administratively and fiscally sound.

For more than 50 years, BCOC has partnered with the community to help fight poverty through its five signature programs: the Economic Self-Sufficiency Program partners with individuals and families to achieve economic self-sufficiency through education and employment; the food program distributes food throughout the county at more than 60 partner sites and is a partner in Fresh Connect Bucks County funded through United Way Bucks County; VITA is a volunteer-run program that provides free income tax preparation assistance to low and moderate income families; emergency programs help families in crisis meet basic needs such as housing, utility assistance, and transportation; and weatherization evaluates the energy efficiency of a home and can often help promote efficiency with additional insulation or materials.
