Members of the public are invited to attend an extraordinary evening of music as the Council Rock South Orchestra presents a Farewell Concert on Friday, March 29, prior to its departure on its 2019 European performance tour.

The Farewell Concert will take place at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium, 2002 Rock Way, Holland. Admission is free.

Performances will include de Falla’s El Amor Brujo, which features oboist Courtney Korn, pianist Alex Diefes, trumpet player Jacob Stratton, clarinetist Jessica Wang, violinist Kellen Shao, cellist Alex Puero, violinist Lea Wang, flutist Kate VanBilliard, and French honist Noah Inchausti.

Another Spanish piece, Habanera, will showcase Wang. The upbeat tempo of Lecuona’s Malaguena will feature Inchausti. In addition, music from the movie Pirates of the Caribeeean and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade will delight audiences of all ages.

Under the direction of Christopher Simon, the 74 high school musicians will then travel to Spain for performances in Sevilla at the Teatro Auditorio Riberas del Guadaiera (April 12), in Granada at the Auditorio Manuel de Falla (April 15), and in Toledo at the Plaza Ayuntamiento (April 17).

Since the CRSO will be representing Pennsylvania and the United States, official proclamations have already been sent to the orchestra from State Sen. Robert “Tommy” Tomlinson and Gov. Tom Wolf. In addition, a representative from the Mayor’s office in Toledo will officially welcome the orchestra at the start of the Toledo concert.
