View collections, explore a cave and experiment with magnets on April 6–7
The Times
The fifth annual Rock & Minerals Expo will take place Saturday and Sunday, April 6–7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year’s theme is Metals and Magnetism. Whether your hobby is collecting minerals, lapidary or gem setting, or if you like to look for fossils, there’s something for you.
Area collectors and mineral club members will have their collections available for sale or exhibit. This event is a great way for beginners to start their collections or for collectors to add to theirs. The event is family-oriented with plenty of activities and learning events for kids.
Admission donation is $5 for adults, and free for anyone under 12 years. There will be cost for some activities: panning for gold is $3; exploring the cave for metal minerals like copper, pyrite, iron and hematite is $4; and using a metal detector to look for treasures is $3.
Visit the Magnet Room for free and experiment with magnets, and learn what you can do with Gallium, a metal that’s solid at room temperature but melts in your hand.
