State Rep. Gene DiGirolamo, of Bensalem, will be running for Bucks County commissioner in the May primary on a unified Republican ticket with Commissioner chairman Rob Loughery.
Longtime Republican Commissioner Charley Martin had previously indicated he would not seek another term.
“We are very happy to have two outstanding candidates for commissioner. Rob and Gene will bring a wealth of experience to county government in the areas that are most important to the quality of life that we enjoy in Bucks County; from protecting our open space, to increasing government accountability to the taxpayer, or addressing the opioid crisis that is ravaging our community. Gene and Rob are the best candidates for the job,” said Pat Poprik, chairwoman of the Bucks County Republican Committee.
Loughery and DiGirolamo are seeking the endorsement of the Bucks County Republican Committee. The primary election is May 21, and the general election is Nov. 5.
The Board of Bucks County Commissioners is composed of three commissioners elected to four-year terms, two from the majority party, one from the minority party. The commissioners are responsible for the adoption and administration of the county operating budget — $432.6 million in 2019 — and oversight of almost 2,400 full-time employees.
Democratic Commissioner Diane Marseglia is expected to seek another term. Other Democrats running include Falls Township Supervisor Bob Harvie. ••
