The Times

Bucks County Community College is seeking applicants for the next session of its 12-week industrial maintenance training program, beginning April 8 in Doylestown.

The program, which focuses on industrial maintenance fundamentals, is free for applicants who meet certain criteria, such as those who are unemployed or underemployed. Others may enroll by paying tuition. The job-placement rate for program graduates is more than 90 percent.

Prospective students must apply in person at a mandatory information session from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 at the Epstein Campus at Lower Bucks, 1304 Veterans Highway, Bristol.

The program introduces fundamental concepts and hands-on skills required in industrial maintenance in a variety of industries. The full-time, 12-week program consists of four days a week in class, and one day a week off-site for company tours. Students will receive one-on-one job-placement services, a certificate of completion, plus certification OSHA10 and Forklift Safety Training.

Interested students must attend an information session to apply and to determine if they are eligible for free tuition. Students who do not qualify for funding may enroll in the program for a tuition of $6,000.

Representatives of local companies looking to hire skilled workers will be at the information session to answer questions and help select candidates for the program. The ideal candidate is someone who likes to work with their hands, problem solve, and is looking to start a new career. Efforts will be made to connect those who successfully complete the program with local employers.

Requirements for the program include: must be a U.S. citizen or possess a Green Card; must be at least 18 years old; must have a high school diploma or GED; must pass an aptitude test, drug screening, background check, and a physical test; and must have reliable transportation to commute to training and to a variety of industry field trips.

The 12-week program begins Monday, April 8 at the Bucks County Public Safety Training Center, 1760 South Easton Road, Doylestown.
