$100,000 awarded to BCCC for job-training opportunities

The grant will allow Bucks County Community College to expand its existing industrial maintenance pre-apprenticeship training program to high school students and other out-of-school young adults

The Times

State Rep. Perry Warren (D-Bucks), recently announced students of Bucks County Community College will benefit from a $100,000 pre-apprenticeship grant to support workforce development opportunities and enhance job training.

“This is a great opportunity for our local youth to be directed toward a career that will enable them to provide for themselves and their families,” Warren said. “With these grants, we are making a significant investment in our students and producing future employees for industries across the commonwealth.”

Warren said the expansion of this program is what he and his fellow legislators have been working toward. In 2018, Warren joined the House Democratic Policy Committee’s public hearing on matching workforce development efforts to Pennsylvania jobs.

“Coordinating people with jobs begins with engaging local businesses and enhancing the skills of potential employees,” he said. “Whether that involves connecting a business owner to qualified candidates or creating qualified candidates in schools, we must commit to supporting legislation, funding and apprenticeship programs that help people find good jobs.”

The grant will allow Bucks County Community College to expand the college’s existing industrial maintenance pre-apprenticeship training program to high school students and other out-of-school young adults, ages 18–24, in Bucks County. The program will specifically span 24 weeks, three hours per day of industrial maintenance instruction.

Funds from this award are part of the more than $5.3 million in the first PAsmart Apprenticeship and NEXT Generation Industry Partnerships grants for south central and southeast Pennsylvania. More information on this program can be found at pasmart.gov
