In honor of Valentine’s Day, a Bucks County Community College chef apprentice baked more than 130 cupcakes that were distributed by the Bucks County Opportunity Council in Bristol on Friday, Feb. 15.

Jackie Stein of Newtown, a chef apprenticeship-pastry emphasis student in her final semester of the program, baked and decorated the goodies under the direction of her instructor, Chef Linda Angeline, as part of an independent study project.

The sweet treats were given out at the Opportunity Council’s Fresh Connect produce distribution at the college’s Epstein Campus at Lower Bucks, according to Heather Foor, the council’s food program manager.

“Many of those who are attending our Fresh Connect program each week are struggling in some aspect of their life,” Foor said. “So if we can brighten their day with a small treat for Valentine’s Day, it is a win-win for everyone involved.”

Stein is completing her apprenticeship at Nothing Bundt Cakes in Newtown and will receive her journeyman cooks papers from the U.S. Department of Labor upon graduation in May.

The Chef Apprenticeship associate of arts degree is a 64-credit program that requires 6,000 hours of on-the-job training and educational courses that support and enhance the work experience. To learn more, visit bucks.edu/business
