“Backyard Birds and Bird Feeding” is the Trevose Horticultural Society’s featured program on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Bensalem Senior Center, 1850 Byberry Road, Bensalem.
Learn about the bird species commonly seen in the area, as well as some special visitors who stop by during migration. Guest speaker, Diane Smith, will explain why feeding birds is both fun and important — while you provide food for the hungry birds, you’re treated to great views of some beautiful creatures. Learn which feeders are best, what types of seed to put out, and how to attract winter birds.
Smith is BCAS Director of Education with a bachelor’s of science in chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Following a long career in the pharmaceutical industry, Smith began teaching at BCAS in 2005, sharing her lifelong love of the outdoors as her “second career.” She is an avid hiker and camper and has survival training from Tom Brown Jr. Tracking, Nature and Wilderness Survival School.
