Rep. Wendi Thomas (R-Bucks), who worked extensively within the healthcare industry, has been appointed to the House Aging and Older Adult Services and the Children and Youth committees. She was also appointed to the Insurance, Professional Licensure and Local Government committees.
“It is an honor to be chosen for two committees that will consider legislation that will impact our most vulnerable citizens,” Thomas said. “Know that I will use my background in healthcare and education to make sure we pass bills that improve their health and well-being.”
The House Children and Youth Committee studies adoption and child protection issues, along with child day care services, infant/child/mother health issues, juvenile delinquency, and adolescent and teen problems.
The House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee is responsible for all programs and services available through the State Lottery Law, such as PACE/PACENET and senior transportation programs, long-term care from a resident rights standpoint, and other aging agencies.
Before joining the House, Thomas served as a school board director for the Council Rock School District. She also worked for a small startup company in the healthcare industry that ultimately grew into a national firm. While at Healthcare Advocate of Plymouth Meeting, Thomas rose from account manager to senior vice president.
Thomas will use that experience on the Insurance Committee and the Local Government Committee.
The House Insurance Committee helps oversee the Insurance Department and ensures any legislation running through the House that pertains to insurance matters is studied with extreme care.
The Local Government Committee reviews bills that would amend the municipal codes by which local governments operate. This could include legislation related to local government purchases, real estate assessment policies and statewide pensions for municipal police officers.
The Professional Licensure Committee maintains jurisdiction over all legislation dealing with the 29 professional and occupational licensing boards located administratively in the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs (BPOA) in the Department of State. Professionals range from physicians and cosmetologists to real estate agents and funeral directors.
