Evenings at the Earthship Series Living Ornaments with Rainbows of Healing will take place Thursday, Dec. 13 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. In celebration of the holiday season, join SLNC to create your own whimsical natural ornament. This workshop at the Earthship includes all the supplies to make your unique ornament and bring nature into your home for the holidays. Space is limited, pre-registration is required. Cost is $25 per person.

119th annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count will take place Saturday, Dec. 15 from 6:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Join Robert Mercer and a team of birders for this fun, free event. All levels of experience, including no experience, are welcome to participate in this important citizen science national bird census. Come out for the whole day or parts of the day. Meet at Neshaminy State Park at 6:45 a.m. or at SLNC at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. Binoculars are available to borrow. Register online, by calling SLNC or stopping by the Visitors’ Building.

Winter Solstice Celebration with the Serene Sound of the Harp will take place Monday, Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. Professor Gloria Galante will lead the concert, which will feature the West Chester University Harp Ensemble. Other special guests include guitarist Jim Dragoni and pianist Andrew Dragoni. Cost is $5 per person, payable at the door or in advance by registering online or by phone. Concert will be inside the Visitors’ Building. Proceeds will benefit the Friends of Silver Lake Nature Center nonprofit organization.

Winter Solstice Night Hike will take place Friday, Dec. 21 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Join SLNC on the shortest day of the year and enjoy a special night on the Silver Lake Trails after dark, followed by a campfire and marshmallows, as well as a visit to the Earthship. Register online or by phone. Cost is $8 for members, $10 for non-members.

Winter Story Hike will take place Saturday, Dec. 22 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. This hike will put a spin on story time, requiring participants to walk the trails to get to the next page. The story will focus on the transition from fall to winter. Dress for the weather. Cost is $2 per member, $3 per non-member.

Kids Nature Days will take place Thursday, Dec. 27 and/or Friday, Dec. 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 6–13 year olds are invited to join SLNC to explore the trails, play games, make crafts, visit animals and much more. Come for one day or both. Before and after care are available. Pre-registration required. Cost is $50 per person day, or $40 per person per day for members of Friends of Silver Lake.

Wilderness Survival Series — Map and Compass in the Woods will take place Saturday, Dec. 29 from 1 to 2:30 p.m The arts of map reading and compass use are very useful tools when exploring the wilds of Pennsylvania. Use of GPS on cell phones may give many people false confidence. Learn how to combine these tools in the deep woods of Silver Lake. Cost is $2 for members, $3 for non-members.

Home School Enrichment Series — Winter Session will begin in Jan. 2019 and run every Tuesday through March. SLNC’s 8-week Homeschool Enrichment Series is an option for families who take a different approach to educating their children ages 6–18. Each of the lessons are developed with the PA Standard Aligned System in mind and ensure that children will excel in all settings. It is important the children dress for the weather and are prepared to get dirty. Register online or by calling SLNC. Cost is $100 per child for the series.

History of Silver Lake Presentation by Local Historian Clarence King will take place Saturday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. King will do a presentation on the history of Silver Lake, which will also include Bristol Borough and Bristol Township, spanning the past 300 years. Register online, by calling SLNC or stopping by the Visitors’ Building. Cost is $6 per person or $5 per person for members of Friends of Silver Lake. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Friends of Silver Lake Nature Center nonprofit organization.
