Local children can learn about science, ABCs and more next month

Mad Mixtures will take place Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. Exploration into the world of chemistry is the theme for this class, which is for ages 3-K. Through Exploding Colors and Liquid Lasagna experiments (among others), the children will get an understanding of chemicals, chemical reactions and density. Then they’ll mix up a batch of play dough to take home.
Detective Science will take place Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. Students in grades 1–6 will become science sleuths as they investigate how chemistry provides evidence at the scene of the crime. During this hands-on detective work, children will gather and test “crime scene” clues, make and analyze their own fingerprints, decipher codes and encrypt messages.
Music and Motion with Ms. Nancy will take place Dec. 3, 10 and 17 at 10:30 a.m. Ages birth and up are invited to sing, dance and move with Ms. Nancy, a professional music teacher experienced in parent-child music programs. This is a walk-in program until full.
ABC Story Hour will take place Tuesdays through Dec. 17 and Fridays through Dec. 21 at 10:30 a.m. Children will learn a new letter each week. Listen to stories, create crafts, sing songs and play with educational toys. This program is for ages birth and up and walk-in.
Teen Board Game Club meets Dec. 4, 11 and 18 from 5 to 6 p.m. Socialize and play fun, challenging board games with friends. Walk-ins welcome.
Genealogy Workshop will take place Dec. 5 at 10:30 a.m. Susan Koelble, a professional genealogist, will lead a workshop on genealogical research and assist attendees with their own research. Workshop is held every first Wednesday of the month.
