Northampton Township was awarded a $237,567 state grant for the design and construction of the New Road Trailhead to link local neighborhoods to the township’s municipal park.
The township was awarded a Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program grant for the project, which will create a link between residential neighborhoods and the municipal park to provide safe pedestrian access to the park. The New Road Trailhead will include a parking lot, neighborhood sidewalk connection, trail and an 8-foot-wide boardwalk bridge.
Additionally, the trail connection will include lighting, trail signage and stormwater management. The boardwalk bridge will be raised over the basin floor to protect the basin’s stormwater design capacity. The total project cost is $279,491.
“Congratulations to Northampton Township for securing this grant, which will expand access to the park while improving its walkability, safety and sustainability,” said state Rep. Helen Tai. “I’m pleased that the township was awarded this grant and look forward to helping other local governments and organizations successfully apply for community improvement grants.” ••
