International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 269 endorsed Brian Fitzpatrick for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives in the 1st Congressional District.

“I am proud to represent the working families of IBEW Local 269. I will continue my work to protect every worker’s right to fair wages, benefits and retirement. Educational programs that ensure a next generation of skilled workers should be a priority as well. As an independent voice, I also feel confident that I can continue to unite both labor and local small businesses to work together to grow and strengthen the middle class,” Fitzpatrick said.

Wayne P. DeAngelo, assistant business manager/president of Local 269, wrote to Fitzpatrick,.“Our members thank you for defending working families on everything from prevailing wage to right to form a union. We also support your training and apprenticeship programs, ensuring a skilled workforce for the jobs of the future. Furthermore, your fight for small business, making sure local workers are on local jobs, will strengthen our middle class.”

Democratic congressional nominee Scott Wallace received the endorsement of Newtown Action Alliance, a national grassroots organization aimed at reducing gun violence, for his support of a federal ban on military-style assault weapons.

Wallace said, “I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement from Newtown Action Alliance. Gun violence is a problem that is so uniquely American and is perpetuated by dangerous military-style assault weapons. It’s unacceptable for our children to live in fear because their leaders aren’t doing enough to protect them — but we have the power to change that. We can elect leaders who will listen to their constituents and take the real action we need to address the rampant gun violence in our country. I am committed to fighting for a ban on military-style assault weapons, supporting common-sense gun regulation and finding new ways to prevent these massacres like mandating biometric trigger locks so only an authorized user can fire the weapon — because no family should ever have to experience firsthand the devastation that these weapons can cause.”

In related news, at a rally for gun safety, Wallace was endorsed by Fred Guttenberg, a gun safety activist who lost his daughter, Jaime, in the school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

Guttenberg said, “I am here as my daughter’s voice and the voice of the other victims of gun violence. I came here to spread my daughter’s story because this was preventable and this is fixable. We have to step up and do it for them now so that they can go to school, or a movie, or walk in a public park. I proudly endorse Scott Wallace because you deserve a congressman who takes your safety seriously and who will make gun safety a mandated issue.”

Wallace’s platform includes background checks on every purchase, disarming domestic abusers and holding gun manufacturers accountable.

Everytown for Gun Safety, a group of more than 5 million mayors, moms, cops, teachers, survivors, gun owners and everyday Americans, announced a new round of gun safety champions they are endorsing for election this cycle, including Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick in the 1st Congressional District.

“We are proud to support these candidates, who have pledged to put public safety ahead of gun lobby priorities. The fact that gun-sense champions are running strong campaigns in red, blue and purple states is further proof that the political calculus on gun safety has dramatically shifted,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety, in a press release.

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, which has a goal of cutting the number of U.S. gun deaths in half by 2025 is also backing Fitzpatrick.

“With just a few weeks left until the midterms, it’s time for all of us to knock on doors, make phone calls, and do everything we can to make sure the majority of Congress will focus on gun violence prevention as a priority issue. We’re proud to stand with our endorsed candidates, and we’re going to do everything we can to help them across the finish line,” said Kris Brown, co-president of the Brady Campaign. ••
