Enjoy bird walks, a Dog Fest and more this month

Saturday Morning Bird Walks will take place Oct. 13, 20 and 27 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Enjoy a birding walk with Doug Filler. These events are free.

Dog Fest Philly — Walk ‘n Roll at SLNC will take place Saturday, Oct. 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Join the fun at this accessible, family-and-dog-friendly walk and festival, benefitting Canine Companions for Independence and the mission of providing highly trained assistance dogs to people free of charge. The walk includes a 1-mile route (fully accessible) around Silver Lake Nature Center, followed by a celebration with family-friendly activities. All dogs (even those that are not trained service dogs) are welcome at this free event.

A Taste of Artistry is back by popular demand on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. Join SLNC for a step-by-step painting class. This will be a fall/winter project where participants will paint a wooden scarecrow and snowman. All materials included. Bring own snacks; alcohol not permitted. Cost is $55 per person for members and non-members. Registration is required at aTasteofArtistry.com.

Historic Bristol Day will take place Saturday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit SLNC’s booth along Radcliffe Street, and also visit its open house. It will have the Earthship open for free tours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All are welcome to explore the trails for free.

Bird Seed Sale Pick-Up will be on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Orders due by Oct. 13. Orders can be placed over the phone, online or in person.

Birding 101 — Fall Edition will take place Saturday, Oct. 20 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. This program is designed for beginners, but all ages and skill levels are welcome. Everything from bird feeders to binoculars and bird identification will be covered. Cost is $2 for Friends of Silver Lake members, $3 for non-members. Registration is required.

Earthship Tours will take place Saturday, Oct. 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The tours are free.

Full Moon Night Hike & Campfire will take place Friday, Oct. 26 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Enjoy a guided after-hours hike on the trails and end with a campfire and marshmallow roast, and a visit to the Earthship. Cost is $10 per person, or $8 per person for Friends of Silver Lake members. Registration is required.

Fall Hike in Delhaas Woods will be on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Join SLNC in exploring the newly blazed, user-friendly trails this fall. Cost is $2 for members, $3 for non-members.
