RSVP Philadelphia is conducting a special volunteer recruitment program at KleinLife, 10100 Jamison Avenue in the far Northeast section of the city, on Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to noon. The public is invited.

“Without the services of our volunteers many non-profit organizations and agencies throughout Philadelphia would not be able to provide a full range of services and resources for their members and constituents,” explained Julie Borsky, community services director for RSVP Philadelphia. “Last year, some 850 of our volunteers delivered 45,000 hours of volunteer services to 95 non-profit agencies and we will be striving to do more this year. Because of cuts in government funding and reductions in foundation grants and other private sources there is an ever increasing demand for our group’s services.”

Borsky noted that there are a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for adults 55-years and above who have an hour or two or more a week to volunteer their time and services. RSVP is looking for people to cook, package and deliver meals to homebound seniors, tutor and read to school children, teach English as a second language, provide friendly visits to those with special needs, serve as docents and tour guides in area museums and other facilities, and work in hospital gift shops.

In addition, volunteers can serve in area thrift shops, knit or crochet for veterans and schools, cut and sort food coupons for military personnel overseas, provide information at area visitors centers, help prepare tax returns, help with record keeping, act as lunch servers for seniors, provide environmental education to the community-at-large and much more.

In addition to funding by the Corporation for National and Community Service, RSVP Philadelphia receives funding from the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging and the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia. It is sponsored by KleinLife in Philadelphia and is headquartered at 10100 Jamison Avenue in the far Northeast section of the city.
