Two grants were awarded last week for community and economic development projects in Bucks County.

A $1.25 million grant will support the development of a new ambulatory building at St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown Township. The new 50,000-square-foot facility will include more than 40 exam rooms, a cardiac rehabilitation gym, an imaging suite, a lab, a pharmacy and other accommodations to better serve patients. The total project cost is expected to be nearly $4.4 million.

An additional $1.25 million grant will aid in the construction of a new network of pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle routes in Bensalem Township as part of the River Renaissance in New Bensalem program. The grant will support the extension of East Coast Greenway on State Road and construction of an additional road connector at a total cost of $2 million.

Last month, a grant for $1 million was awarded to Villa Joseph Marie High School to renovate both the North Wing of St. Joseph’s Hall and the school’s main hallway to develop state-of-the-art STEM facilities and collaborative learning spaces. This grant is in addition to the $500,000 the school received last year for schoolwide projects.

The grants were awarded as part of the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which is administered by the Pennsylvania Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.

“These grants provide a tremendous investment in our community, covering a wide variety of initiatives that will improve the quality of life for local residents,” said state Sen. Tommy Tomlinson said. “Each of these projects will not only support new jobs in the community, but will also ensure Bucks County remains a great place to live, work and raise a family.” ••
