Jeanne Lakawitz was named Pennsbury’s 2018 School Bus Driver of the Year by transportation director Charlie Williams at the bus drivers’ annual kick-off meeting in late August. Lakawitz, who has served as a Pennsbury driver for 14 years, currently transports students to Pennsbury High School, Pennwood and William Penn middle schools, and Quarry Hill Elementary School.

“Jeanne Lakawitz is a great example of the best qualities of a bus driver,” said Williams. “She is dedicated, compassionate toward her student passengers, and also passionate about her work. She develops a good rapport with the students.”

Upon invitation by Williams, Pennsbury student, Cameren Cooper, also attended the drivers’ meeting and spoke about the supportive relationships he has forged over the years with his bus drivers, including Lakawitz.

“You have had such a huge impact on my life,” said Cameren. “Please remember that there may be someone else like me out there who is in elementary school right now, and you can be just as inspiring to him or her as you have been to me.”

When asked about how much she enjoys her work, Lakawitz said, “I love children, and treat them all as if they’re my own. It is a joy to have them on my bus.” She also stated how much she enjoys meeting the parents and building relationships with them. “They’re always so grateful that I’m their children’s bus driver and show their appreciation. My family and friends are also very proud of me. I wish to extend special thanks to Cameren, too.”

In addition to driving for Pennsbury, Lakawitz is also in her 14th year transporting summer campers attending programs at the YMCA in Fairless Hills. In previous years, she had been employed by Langhorne Carpets in Penndel and OKO Plush Co. in Hulmeville. She is a Neshaminy High School graduate, having also attended Our Lady of Grace School.

“I love what I do,” concluded Lakawitz, “and I’m honored to receive this special recognition.”
