St. Mary Medical Center has partnered with Farm-to-Families to offer low cost produce boxes

The Times

St. Mary Medical Center, through a partnership with the North Philadelphia based Farm-to-Families initiative, is helping to provide better nutrition and eliminate food deserts in Bucks and Montgomery County area by offering low cost produce boxes.

On Thursday, Aug. 16, dozens of families picked up boxes of fresh fruit and vegetables at Our Lady of Fatima School Center in Bensalem for as low as five dollars for qualifying families, less than half the cost of retail.

The food boxes can feed a family of four for an entire week. Similar to other co-op or community-supported agriculture programs, the Farm-to-Families boxes are packed with seasonal, locally sourced fruits and vegetables.

St. Mary dietitians and nutritionists provided live cooking demonstrations and answered questions as they helped introduce sometimes unfamiliar foods to families in need. The St. Mary team also provided meal plans for the entire week. The program often has meats and cheeses available for purchase, as well.
