“Catsmus in July” shelter cat adoption special aims to save lives

There will be $25 reduced price cat adoptions at Women’s Humane Society all this week

The Women’s Humane Society is holding “Catsmus in July.” There will be $25 reduced price cat adoptions all this week in an effort to encourage potential adopters to open their hearts to animals in immediate need of new homes.

Like most animal shelters throughout the region and around the country at this time of year, the Society is experiencing a marked increase in animal intake and owner surrenders, while at the same time facing the challenges of decreased adoption interest as public focus turns to travel plans and vacations. This issue is exacerbated in the case of cats, as the summer season is also the height of “kitten season,” when shelters are flooded with litters of homeless or orphaned kittens that require round-the-clock care.

“Our shelter is full with cats, and we can’t empty it without the help and participation of our community of animal lovers,” said Jack Griffin, director of shelter services. “If you are thinking about adopting a pet, there is no time like the present. It is literally saving a life.” If one cannot commit to adoption, becoming a foster parent is another impactful way to assist. Two-three month foster commitments would help alleviate overcrowding in the shelter during these busy summer months, while also allowing senior and long-term cats a break from the stressful shelter environment.

In addition to discounted adoption fees, all adoptions at the Women’s Humane Society include spaying or neutering, vaccinations, microchip, flea/tick treatment, free and discounted veterinary services, and unconditional love!

The “Catsmus in July” adoption special will run this week through Saturday, July 28. The Adoption Center will be open Tuesday-Thursday from noon-6:30 p.m.; Friday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m..

About the Women’s Humane Society

Founded in 1869 as the First Animal Shelter and Adoptions Program in America, the Women’s Humane Society offers a variety of services to the Greater Philadelphia region, including dog training classes, physical rehabilitation, and humane education programs for community groups of all ages. As part of its mission, the Women’s Humane Society Animal Hospital provides low-cost veterinary care to families in need, making pet ownership affordable and thus keeping more animals in their homes and out of shelters. All proceeds raised through veterinary service fees support the shelter of the stray, abandoned and abused animals that come into the Women’s Humane Society’s care.

The Women’s Humane Society is located at 3839 Richlieu Road in Bensalem, and can be reached by phone at 215–750–3100. For additional information, please visit www.womenshumanesociety.org.
